Take your water to any LFS and they should test your water for free to tell if you're "cycled" or not. I would buy my fish from a store instead of online unless you're trying to get something really rare.
just add the hardiest fish you want first and then continuously add fish over time slowly. Add like a fish per week.
fishless cycling takes forever and is boring as hell. of course if you wanted to buy online and put a bunch of fish in at once then you may be forced to fishless cycle, or buy feeder fish to cycle it for you.
I usually give tanks anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks, depending on size. As for interesting fish, the only site i know is www.****************. But one species to keep an eye out for is the Japanese Dragon Fish. It's a personal favorite of mine. They may look viscious, but they never attack other fish and often look dead. They also go by the names of violet goby and dragon goby. Be ready for a BIG fish. about 2 feet long max. Here's a few pics. The top two are adults and the bottom two are juvenile.
since you are just starting up, you may want to go to aquariacentral.com, which is a sister site of monsterfishkeepers. there are a lot of experienced people over there, but it is a little more suited to beginners and standard community style set-ups.
