Home of the brave.
What the hell man! I've tried everything I possibly can with my current setup and I never get the water looking crispy.

Tank:

180g covered durring the day so no sunlight

Lighting:

2 CL T-5 with 4 powerglow 1800k bulbs run at night for 5-6 hours

Filtration:

FX-5 with stock white pads and trays are filled with Seachem pond matrix, Ehiem rings, Ehiem subsrate and a bag of carbon. pads and bio media are rinsed in big bucket of tank water every 2 months.

Tetra pond uv sterilizer

2 Emp 400's with blue pads

1 2217 with oem blue coasre pad at the bottom and the rest stuffed with poly fill.

Airation:

6 inch stone disk
Hydor c 3 power head

WC:

50% once a week

Stock:

12 inch KML FH, 11 inch Gold saum, 7 inch Motoro, 6 inch Jag
and a few rescues I added recently but problem exisited before addition

Yes they all get along, are in excellent health, and excellent condition.
And yes Im upgrading in the near future.

Howdy,

First, no reason to curse on a public forum.

Second, do you have problems with floaties or with milky water?

Third, what are your nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia levels as well as pH?

And lastly, why do you rinse your biomedia so often? Does the flow drop that dramatically within just a couple of months?

Just a word of advice, I dont care what anyone say's.. I have never had good luck with Canister Filters. My 75 gallon was the same way, I could never get the tank looking that amazing cleaness that I wanted. I added an extra AC110 and the extra filtration along with the extra carbon bag really did the trick... a little help from experience... good luck!

Sorry I didnt know hell was a curse word

Floaties? Yes water is a touch milky looking

Dont know as i dont test and RARELY loose any fish over the years

The are rinsed because im not using the other pads that sit in the trays below the biomedia and they are exposed to a lot more waste than they would usually.

No offense vass but I have found that putting things the way you are when asking for help will not come across well with people on forums.

What canisters did you use before?
What was the stocking on the 75 gal?
How many canisters were you running?
Was it planted?

These are all things that will affect filtration. You said the "extra" filtration did "the trick". This should tell you something, PERHAPS, and I am not saying definitely, your tank was under filtered and thus had suspended materials in the water column.

Just my 2c.

I think perhaps "p***ing" was the offending word.

One fluval 405 canister, 6 african cichlids, nothing planted.

There was more than enough water turnover rate with the 405 canister. I was just adding my "2c."

For me personally I would have used 2 of the fluval 405's minimum on a 75gal to have clean water. I use two canisters rated at 320gal/h on a 55 gal with 10 congos and 4 kribs.
