Really Pissing Me Off!

you need to test your water and post the parameters. it would help a lot.

most of the time when everything is set up right but you still have cloudy water it is usually one simple problem:

you might be over feeding.

try feeding every other day for a week, do an extra water change, and it should clear up.

this of course, assumes that the cloudy water is not a sign of an ammonia or nitrite spike in your tank, both of which is often accompanied by cloudy water.

posting your water parameters will help greatly, but cutting back on the feeding will almost always help with cloudy water intially.

Two things.

Firstly the flow through the UV may be too fast meaning it's not effectively sterilizing the water or too slow meaning it's not turning over the tank often enough. The UV may also be too small for the tank.

And second, canister filters often fail to make water crispy because the floss sections are often not properly sealed allowing water to bypass the section unfiltered once the floss is dirty enough to create some back pressure. The only way to be sure is if the floss plugges the whole cross section of the filter from cylinder wall to cylinder wall.

If both these issues have been delt with then you just need more mech filtration

^^I sort of agree with the overfeeding theory. . . It's probably the source of your problems. Skip a day of feeding and see if it clears up.

When i had a 55g i had two aqueons 50 in there i upgraded tanks and filters 75g tank and two 110 ac!Beleive it or not it wasn't enough?! I went out and bought a 15 watt gamma uv sterilizer,i put it in my tank for 24hrs straight when i pulled it out the next day my tank water looks like it belongs embottled!SO you might need extra filtration or a uv sterilizer will help alot!!!Hope it is usefull for you!

if you're not using pads in your FX5 there's your problem. That is your main source of filtration and not using the correct mechanical filters in it will give you minimal results. Also rinsing your biological filters so often can be causing bacteria blooms which will make your water less than clear. Use the filters as they were designed and if you still have problems go from there.

I've got the annoying problem right now of cloudy water. Got rid of my plec and cray and going to drop feeding to once a day for now. Water parameters are all fine i.e zero ammonia etc. Will leave it a few days until it settles down after 50% watch change then if its still bad I'll clean out the filter. Good luck trying to resolve it.

Could it be that your dangerously "UNDER" stocked sir?

Just yankin your chain!

Dude all you need is a filter sock if nothing is wrong with your water params....

Filtersock
diatom filter
magnum350.

Any of those will do the trick. I always used these 1once a week to make my water look crispy for quite a while. Now i run my filter socks full time. 200 microns, i want the 50 microns but that would be cleaned every hour.

Here is something for you to calm down buddy.
