Nice chart update 12Volt.

Here is a current list from aqueonproducts.com
pretty much everything over 37 gallons has a tempered bottom now:
Thanks, that's good to know. I'm make sure I never buy one that's not pre-drilled if I plan on using a W/D. That would have been a sad day :(

Oceanic and Glass Cages don't use tempared at all.
Marineland is about half and half with most over 100gal without:

Styrofoam isnt going to support nearly 1 ton of weight, it will compress into nothing under that load. And of course the tank was sitting on oak that is what the stand is made of, stronger that pine, MDf, all 2x4 bracing but I agree there was either a flaw in the stand or the glass prior to me filling it.

Wrong, you need an interface, and it would work, the force is lower as the area is greater. Basic physics.

P=F/A

If you have even the tiniest high point, the pressure can quadrupal and you can have a major fault on your hands.

Anyone else care to comment on this styrofoam theory?

There is a reason nearly every pre made tank you can buy has styro built into it below the glass, all my rena aquariums do.

My theory is, it is another method to help distribute the weight over the entire surface and help smooth out peaks and valleys on my larger tanks. I use the Owens Corning Polystyrene Sheets for use behind siding, 1/2 thick. I have some that is an 1" thick as well but have not used it yet.

Will the styrofoam under the tank work on all glass aquariums for more stability?

I had a 12 gallon aquapod get a serious crack last week. I imagine it was from the stand. While the stand was built for 400 pounds long ago, and was flat and leveled, the legs on it were just the tiniest bit wobbly and we had to be careful not to touch the stand much or it would move sideways a tiny bit. It was a temporary stand that would have been replaced tomorrow, but the aquarium didn't make it that long.

So if i am correct, you place a piece of styrofoam under the tank (sort of like they do in packing stuff) and it will help support the bottom of the tanks? My new stand arrives tomorrow and I will be putting the tank up again.

Yup put it under the tank. I dont know if it would have helped in your case, it isnt Jesus, its just styro....

I have nightmares about my tanks failing I own glass and acrylic. prayerfully I havent had any problems. i guess it's just a risk we all take as fishkeepers.
