I have an established 20g with 12" Pleco and a crawfish and a few tetras. I recently got a 55g and really want to try a carnivorous/predatory fish. Not sure is I should move my fish to the larger tank and put the new fish in the 20g. Need some good ideas or atleast a direction to head in.

Well, the pleco is already way too big for the 20g, probably also too big for the 55...So if it is a common pleco and you can expect more growth, either go larger or maybe get him into a good home. A few carnivous fish for a 55g...some of the smaller wolf fish species would do amazing, go check out some pictures people have on their thread.

Well I live in California so snakeheads and wolfs are out. I have thought about exodons, because they ate the next best after piranhas.
Also I've been wanting to get rid of my Pleco but not sure what to do with it.

The pleco is way too big for the 20 and the 55g.............Get rid of the pleco, it is a waste producer..........As for soem type of carnivore/predatory fish, start with a pair of Convict Cichlids.........Throw the pair in the 20g, alone.........The pair will breed, gauranteed, within two weeks.............The Convict Cichlid is a perfect cichlid to "wet" your feet into the door of larger Central and South Amercan fish.........The breeding, terittorial, and feeding behavior of the Convict is is like most American Cichlids.........Once the fish breed, you will have graduated to the next level of caring for cichlids, breeding, ask when it comes.......But for now practice the filtration techniques, weekly water changes, and feedings of this simple cichlid........As for the 55, you can do one of two things:

1------->get a single showcase medium sized cichlid and raise it....Examples are a Green Terror or Flowerhorn........
or
2--------->Use the 55 as a nursery for the Convict fry that come popping out every two-4 weeks.........Once you get the hang of owning Convict Cichlids, you have the basic riual right of passage into the realm of freshwater predatory fish.........

I'm telling you right now to go to the nearest pond/lake and catch you a small largemouth bass. Those things can EAT and they are extremely entertaining to watch eat. Drop like 3-5 minnows in there and watch him dart around stuffing his face. They're very hearty too, so you don't have too much to worry about when it comes to maintenance.
