ive read just about every thread on id sharks and am getting extremely varied answers on full size and growthrate. how long would it take to outgrow a 150g 6'x1.5'? and how long till it would outgrow a 6'x30" footprint? most the info i see about realworld max size in home aquaria is 18-24".

they grow some what slow in my experience around 1-2'' a month untill 24'' then they slow down for a 150 i'd say your good for atleast a year and in a 6'by30'' i'd say you have a long time in aquariums they can get 36'' so you will need to have a bigger tank in the future

Mine is a foot almost..and i have had them for almost two years. They grew very fast in the beginning..looking at some of those pics from planet catfish i have a feeling some of these guys are a little different species..i know they have plenty of different names.. Irridescent sharks, columbian sharks and silver tip sharks..here is a 2 pics of mine..

The biggest problem with size being a factor is ... It is not the main factor to be looking at with these species :( Yes size should definitely be a huge part of the decision.

In my opinion at 16" they are too big for even a 250 :( This is strictly my opinion as I have two... And my P-Bass are much better suited for it than my ID's.

In My opinion my fish need a minimum of 10' in length and 2' in width. The problem isn't size.. It's swimming behavior. They are very clumsy and have no real control when they are spooked.. They swim just as fast if not faster than my super speedy Cichla.. The just don't stop as fast .. Well they just don't stop at all!!! They ram anything in the way and not on purpose.

You could keep them in a 150 for a long time.. BUT their noses in my opinion would never heal.

Sorry I am unable to answer your question.. All I can tell you is above which is my experience :)

H. Pangasius is ID Shark. By most COMMON terms..

Width of your tank in my opinion should not be your main concern.. If you upgrade to a 30" and leave it 6' you are not upgrading at all in my opinion.. I believe with these sp. Longer is better. Add width and add MORE length . Not just width.

Hey Liz, those aren't iridescent sharks :)

okay what are they..columbians? i just looked up columbians and they max out at 12 inches..thats grea......i am done!

My 2 IDs are around 18" now and very fat. They have grown from 1.5" to 18" in 1 and 1/2 years. If these fish are fed well, they grow quick. I keep them in a mixed large tank and interestingly enough they are not skittish in the least bit.

Had mine for a month now grew from 2" to 4". So far my expirience is 2" in the first month. Hoping they will do more in the next month. My friend only feeds his flakes and he's had them 2 years and they are at 6". Mine will outgrow his in another month. I tried to tell him they are stunted, but he just doesn't care. I love my friend, but when it comes to fish he's an idiot. He feeds them a pinch or two of flakes a day.
