I thought it would be fun to have our own forum game. What are some of the reasons why keeping native fish is so great. They can be anything from your standard answers to crazy and bizarre reasons. Lets see why we keep native monsters

I never tried keeping native fish and i live in long island so theres beaches and a few rivers around me but the cons is that the best fish store on the island is closer to me then the river and i enjoy seeing fish that wouldnt commonly be seen around me its like a whole new word. I also dont have care sheets to access and its hard to know the max size for what you catch and you never know what your gonna catch til you do catch it. I also find tropical fish to be more colorful and attractive. Sorry dont mean to ruin your thread just trying to show another view

you don't have to worry about getting screwed over by a fish store employee who doesn't know what they are doing.

I feel like native fish are unpreceteded, among them u can find small colorful , community fishess well as big, feeder thirsty predators. And do u think that lets say oscar is smarter than a bluegill i doubt that.

I find this hard to believe considering you can just toss an empty hook in the water and catch a bluegill.

My reason: North American native fishes have the American eel, a REAL eel that can tolerate freshwater, not some fake eel like spiny eels.

learning about them! by far my favorite reason. i now know or have confirmed alot of things that were rumored or wives tales. now i just gota drop my tank temp to 35-40 deg. so i can figure out how to catch them this time of year. lol anyhow i also enjoy the predatory side of it too. call me sick but when i drop in some live food its awesome to watch.

Its funny that you say that cause I'm currently trying to plan how long I have to wait to get so natives this year as the ice just receded. So i'm trying to figure out how long I have to wait till the temp will be appropriate.

Another reason natives a great is you actually get to go collect them instead of have someone else fish them out of a tank for you.

I bed an Oscar would hit an empty hook as well though
