No, originally the tank had a built in corner filter. The ones seen like 20 years ago. LOL When i purchased it i was going to rebuild the filter but i couldn't find ANYONE who knew anything about them. So i ripped it out and put the DIY there instead. The top is all plastic, I was lucky enough there happen to be 2" holes at both corners of the tank.
