Note to self.Dont eat gar caviar.
Dont want to eat any fish eggs but now theres a reason!

Oddly the Vice Principal of the Middle school I attended did the same thing.. Except for I told him they were poisonous and he should not eat them. He did it anyways and went to the hospital.

That's what ya get for not listening to the geeky little kid bud....

I did turn him on to Bowfin caviar though and he became a life long fan of Bowfin fishing.

wow

I've always heard that gar roe is toxic, but my question is, "Why and who wants to eat gar meat?" I've never had it and have no desire to try it. I would think it's not very palatable, plus gar are considered junk fish, by most fisherman..

Gar is actually very good eating. The two long strips of meat along the back is supposed to be very delicious.

If a fisherman hooks a gar, they usually throw them on the bank and let them die. I don't know anyone who eats gar. Bass, crappie, channel cat, walleye -- That's a different story.

They do that because they think that gar are invasive and killing all the trophy fish they want to catch. Why would you kill a fish that you think doesn't taste good? You'd just release it.
