I'm new to this forum and i currently have a 55g tank that has a few community fish in it that i'm going to get rid of. Could you guys make a suggestion to what kind of fish that i should put in this tank that could live in it for life. I know 13" is not very deep for most large cichlids but i'm sure there is one that will fit.

Jack Dempsey 9" MAX

there are some smaller strains of flowerhorns that could do well in a 55

If you really want some good info and input on what to put in your tank contact Jeff Rapps and Tangled up in cichlds. He has the largest selection of central and south american cichlids both large and small species. I would say 95% of my cichlids come from him and his fish are true to breed, no hybrids. I would stay with the less aggressive smaller species which usually works better in a smaller tank. You could even get some pairs and possibly even breed them. Good luck with you cichlid tank.

Rapps doesn't really have time to answer questions and stuff, he is more into just answerin order emails and stuff. This is your best bet here, then when you know what you want, go to Rapps. Some dwarf Crenicichla would be NICE! Or some Saxatilis!! :D

55gal...hmmm...i'd go with a pair of GT's. very colorful, lots of attituded, don't get gigantic, arn't that messy, plus there's a strong possibility they will allow tankmates (despite their name, i've found most of the GT i've owned to be very tolorant of other tankmates),and they don't grow as fast as some cics, like O's or jags...
