Sponge filters are relitively amazing for what they r and their general size. Have you considered getting rid of all the hang ons and putting an overflow box and sump?

I have a rena XP3. It sits in a rubbermade tote with a water alarm. I found out the hard way if you don't seat the plumbing insert into the top correctly it won't give a good seal and will leak. I haven't made the same mistake again but still I have it in the tote just in case. It's been a great filter for me on both my tanks, easy to clean and efficient at keeping the tank clean.

Marineland c360. Had one running for 2 years now. No leaks, self priming, easy cleaning. Just flip the lock and take the trays out. You can fill the trays with whatever you want. More filter pad, more bio, carbon, whatever you want. They are also compact. I have 2 running on a 75 gallon and they fit into the cabinets. I personally recommend this canister.

The marinelands are the same as the aquatops but the aquatops are half the price

I have several fluval canisters... No problems with them and they have been running for several years. My only complaint is that they are a pain to prime... Once going no complaints.

The fx5 is supposed to be the beeze neeze...

Isn't 15 Africans in a 125 super under stocked?

yes. i just counted i think i have 18-20 it isnt easy. they are all different sizes. i just dont want to tadd alot more until i know i am equipped. i replaced all the filter pads today and got a bag of carbon for another and did a 1/3 water change. tank crystal clear. the africans do their thing and the catfish are happy. the red tail shark cruises. the archers are like puppies im just making sure there are no nipped fins as there are none yet.

im either going to get two more when i finally see them...or give them back. two is a bad number but it is all they had. one is dominant and bright and the other has dark blotchy submission signs. both eat like pigs.

or i may just return the submissive one and keep the dominant. dont know. i feed them bugs though and the cichlids plants and the catfish pellets at night
