See I am worried that they wont take him when he gets too big; I find the lfs in my area are always not wanting to do trade ins..... I definitely cant get my 300 gal anytime soon, how long will it take the arrowana to grow to 3 feet? He is pretty for a Silver...

I would say 1' per year or so... As for green terrors, I strongly suggest you forget about them if you are looking for oscars. Mine lip-locks with my oscars and I will have to let the GT go for the oscar's sake.

I did keep Heckelli / geophagus with oscars, and they did fine. My oscars are quiet and non agressive...you could end up with an oscar with a bad temper tho. I have a blue dempsey (look at my avatar) with them, they are best friends. Less agressive than regular dempseys. You could also look at polypterus, some large catfish, look at my 130g tank and see...besides the GT it works well together.

Hope this helps!

I say go crazy and get 2 male betas.... you'll be the coolest kid on your block... jk.. sometimes I feel like oscars really limit you. They take away so many options due to their personalities. It's like that one friend that none of your other friends like because he's loud and obnoxious, but when you gotta hang out with him, nobody else can go... at least I think it's a good analogy. somebody mentioned above an amazon tank with discus, rams, and tetras... That would look really good because the tetras would have 6 feet to school around... not very monster fish like but very attractive.

Did upl8dave just recommend a pacu??? :screwy:

I respectfully disagree with that suggestion bro...

Me too. Kinda funny though
She says she is getting rid of her arro cause it'll get too big and someone suggests a pacu! Classic.
Anyways, I have a JD in with my tiger O.They have rare scraps, but nothing serious.
The O also has a pleco, 1 convict and a trio of silver dollars in his tank and all of those get along fine.
Hope that helps.
Eric

Had to take my silver dollars out of oscar tank cause he decided he didnt like them anymore.Chased them into a corner behind some plants and wouldnt let them out

I agree the pacu suggestion its totally off the wall they get about 3' and grow fast.

A jd is a good one to try theyre a little smaller but a little tougher.

I did have a jd in there and the oscar kept beating him up!!! I also tried the GT and the GT kept beating up the Oscar!! Neither of the 2 lfs down here have any Texas in stock so that is out of the question. The arro has to go for two reasons:
1. My tank is not big enough
2. My oscar died cause the arrowana wouldnt let him eat

I guess I am kind of limited to whatever the lfs has in stock right now.... and my husband only wants something "monstrous", nothing small... and having only one O in a tank is pretty boring especially when you have a nice 125, so I will need some kind of friend for him to grow with... Especially since I'll have to grow them out again... lol

I dont think the arowana would keep the oscar from eating.

Look into some geophagus or pike cichlids....a pair of pikes would be awesome

Anyone in Toronto wanna buy him from me? I have an hour before I go to the store, and i can email someone the pics to post for me.... I dont know how

OK LFS wont take him...... so I guess I'll keep the arrowana for now... maybe just get another oscar......

how about some convicts with you oscar?

How about redhooks instead of the oscar?
