Recommended HOB filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got Aquaclear 110's and a Seachem Tidal 110. Both BIG HOBs rated at ~450-500gph. The Seachem has some nice things going for it and I have a thread going on the Setup/Filtration section of this site. That said, I still prefer the AC110. Best big HOB out there and I've used them all at this point.

I have 16 AC110's running in conjunction with canisters on most of my cichlid tanks. Very reliable, very good mechanical filters. In your case with the big cans holding plenty of bio, I would run the AC's with stock sponge and filter floss on top of that. Toss the carbon bag. Floss you may have to rinse/replace weekly, maybe a bit longer. Sponges prob a 2x monthly rinse. If you can fit, you may want to go with 3 AC's. I have 3 on a 220 with moderate stock and 2 canisters. Works very well
