I just picked up my new Senegal Bichir today. It's not very active as it's adjusting right now and I need to spice up the tank a little bit, but with due time it'll come around.

I'm going to go get some pellets for it tomorrow to hopefully get it to start eating, and I was wondering what the recommended pellet was? I've heard sinking carnivore pellets, carnivore sticks, shrimp pellets, etc. but don't really know the consensus. Would anyone mind sharing what their sen's enjoy the most? Would be awesome if I could get some advice on it, I don't want it eating live like everything in my other tank.

My sens eat anyting. I feed them hikari, NLS, and Omega1. They also eat worms, shrimp, all types of fish, bloodworms... i could go on forever :]

That's good to hear!! I've heard stories of people who can't get them to eat anything but live, then other stories where people get them to eat anything they drop in their tank. Sure hope mine is the latter.:D

when i just got mine it was about 10 cm's and very shy, i fed it bloodworms for about the first week then i slowly started to feed it small broken up pieces of massivore and than small pieces of shrimp

I think Hikari would be a good starter. Seems that most fish except Hikari fairly easily.

I broke up massivore into bits and fed them that from the get go....Massivore as a main pellet then Krill Silversides Tilapia etc as rest of the diet

I got the Sen at Petsmart, and when I asked the dude "what would you recommend as a diet?" he said "flakes mostly". It's when I read stuff like what you wrote that I laugh at people like this xD

I'll either start with sinking carnivore or broken massivore, depends which one I can get easiest, and if he doesn't take 'em I'll try the other. Thanks :)

as other people have recommended, go for sinking carnivore pellets for now, and mix it up with some tilapia fillet cuttings, and shrimp pellets for good digestion... I have noticed that the carnivore pellets give the bichir gas in their digestive tracts, makes the tail float until he farts it out... this is where the shrimp pellets come in.

i have an ornate and have tried several different brands... Hikari is what he loves.. I would start yours out on the sinking carnivore and then once he gets 8 inch or so go to the massivore... hikari says to wait til they are 12 inch... but I have a 14 clown knife that i put them in for and my ornate gets them before he even knows they are there now with no problem getting them down..
