Recurring Tank Smell

Try carbon in a reactor. Remember carbon is only good for a couple of weeks. Rox 0.8 carbon is the good one. You can pick some up at BRS on line. It will do wonders on your water Quality as well. The trick is use a reactor. Dropping some in a filter bag is a waste on time and money. Further more why take away some beneficial media to allow for carbon and not be using it at full potential.

Out of all the tanks and filters I have had, I have never had this issue. The one other thing that occurred to me is that this is the only tank that I always ran a light on. I run a light 24/7 but it has a special 24/7 setting that is self dimming depending on the time of day. Could the light be causing something related to the smell when there is additional waste in the tank from feeding?

My first guess would be something decaying. Maybe something sitting in the filter? When my tank has smelled in the past 99.9% of the time it was something in the sump like a filter pad long past needing changed.
