I had this red-ish algae growing on the back glass panel of my tank. I tried taking a picture but you cant tell its there since the back is black. It's on my 135 SA/CA community tank which has been set up for about 4 months now. I never had it on my 50 gallon which has been setup for about 2 years now. I scrubbed it off yesterday and threw in some algae control as well. Does anyone know if this red algae stuff is normal in relatively new tanks?

Sounds like cyanobacteria, which is not an algae. For more info google is your friend.

I've not heard if red Cyanobacteria but it probably does exist. Be warned, if it is then get rid of it, fast, it's a mango fish killer! Dose H2O2 to kill it, won't have any negative affects on fish unless you overdose it, also adds O2 to the water.

I find that it is often caused by a shift in ones lighting spectrum. Replace older tubes etc, or try different lights. LED's solved a massive cyano outbreak that I had in one of my tanks a few yrs back.
