One word....patience.

But seriously you should start to see some color blushing around the cracks in the cheeks by around 8 months.

A red aro could take years to bloom...

Agreed, best way to tell would be by looking at its parents and farm of origin IMHO.

Ok good... thought mayb guy was sayin it was blood red but not. Heres some pics.. not a good pic taker and aro is scared of the camera light so no flash either. I had him for a bout 3 months and the guy said he was bout 2 months when I got himfish 001.jpg

Maybe i'm confused but that looks like the normal reds I was looking at last weekend.
The super and chilli reds were showing red already at that size.
Chillis and supers are red when they are that big, especially around the head.
Agqain maybe i'm wrong but i don't think that's a super, blood, chilli red. I think It's a noraml red.

At 9 inches they should start to show a little blush on their checks and you will see a faint orange on the fins and some color coming through the scales. At 14 to 16 inches the scale outline should be deep orange and the 5th level shine should be coming through and at 18 inches you should really know what the potential is going to be.this is from my experience with mine growing up in taiwan. You can go to arofanatics and the guys over there can help you more you just have to bear with their foreign sense of humor.Frm the looks of your pics it looks like a red ,genetics will play a huge role on its potential.

If you look at the head region does it look greenish or more purplelish?

PATIENCE is the only word in keeping a red... as I was in the same position as u when I got my red, always thinking when the red will show, but color will come with time. Gl
