Hey guys just wondering what you feed your Red Arowana be it chili red, super red, violet fusion super red, emperor red etc.Mines a chili red. i feed mine on a diet of market prawns only, cuz i heard its a good source of carotene for the arowana colour development.once a while like once a month i feed it centipede i get from my LFS in Singapore at $1.50 per piece.and does anyone know whether the food it eats or the lighting that enchances it colour development?cuz i have mine for almost a year now i switch on my flourescent light 24/7,and the colour never disappears,if i switch if off for like an hour or so,the colour fades but once i turn it on again the colour comes back.

Unfortunately I can't keep the Asians but I think you are on the right track seeking high carotenoid levels in their food. These are abundant in red crustaceans such as shrimp, krill, Cyclops and others. You can also try one of the new Hikari Bio Gold foods for cichlids. I bet this would color him up.

Im in hawaii, and i feed my super red aro pellets, hikari sticks, meat, pinkys, centipedes, freeze dried bloodworms, comets, goldfish guppies, crickets, mealworms, roaches, cane spiders, and sometimes fruit and vegies. As you can tell, he aint a picky eater :D.

i never heard aro eating fruits and vegies b4. wow. but my arowana is a picky eater, as i feed it on a diet of market prawn, sometimes dun even take the prawn at all,and i have to go to the LFS to buy bullfrogs or centipedes for it. cuz i heard some arowanas will want to fight with their prey when its alive only, only when they are really starving then they take dead food.

you might want to be more discreet about having an Asian in the U.S. unless you have a permit

Since all my asians refuse to eat aro pellets do i feed them market prawn. Ive tried some other stuff but they refuse to eat it. Its only the silver that eats pellets. Ill try frogs now when the summer is here. Just need to fetch some hehe

Too bad we dont have frogs here and it is illegal to own an outside species or have aby. we only have coqui and toads here. I would be feeding it that instead of pinkys.

yeah, im pretty impressed myself. he eats melon, pears and small slices of peaches. Prawns are okay too, but they are expensive here.

It's all about the genes. Feeding only help little. I have seen reds been fed with bullfrogs, pork, chicken meat and even superworms throughout their life yet very red.

if you want, you could buy superworms and gutload it with carrots.. it would not matter whether what kind of aro it is. but koji is right, just like the kok and pearls in flowerhorn, no matter what type of food you feed it, it would only help a little.. tha main factor is the genes of the fish..
