Ya, that salvini was crazy dude he did more protecting the eggs than the male/female snook combined, he would chase fish away that were 4ft away and were looking in the other direction,ya that is a Leporinus, about a 9" too. And ya i will be trying to get rid of the fry when they reach that size, but that is so far off, right now their just heads with tails.
Idk probably will let local mfkers that are interested will get first dibs, than probably off to the lfs for a pretty penny (Snooks are rare here and when your bringing 50-100 in u get some $$)
They are called snook because their shape is a bit like the common snook, here is a painting from fishbase,
the fish I think you are thinking of is a mix between lake trout and brook (speckled) trout and is called a "splake" here is a picture from trophyfishingonline
Actually a Snook is also a very popular Saltwater game fish in florida since that is justy called a snook, i think that is why Petenia Splendida adopted where it came from RED BAY Snook
