I have 6 6-7" reds and a 10-11" red,I just picked up the tank and fish together 4 days ago and they have not eating yet..And I have noticed that they have been chasing each other around for the last day..Are they reestablishing there pecking order even though they where together for the last 6 months or am i going to loose 1 of my reds?? Any suggestions on what is going on or what I can do or try so they will eat?? Thanks in advance for all the help...

hey bud that's what happen on my reds when i got them lol...yup one of your reds will gonna die..btw i dunno what is the best solution on your problem ask sir jp find my thread.. btw you have pics??

what size tank are they in?
even they were together for a long period of time once you change the tank setup they will have to reestablish their terrtories, that's probably what they are doing now.
there's a chance that you may loose one or more of the fish but there's also a chance that you won't loose any. pygos usually eat pretty fast after being introduced to new tank as compare to serras. what have you been feeding them and what did the previous owner used to feed them? either way i wouldn't worry much about them not eating after just 4 days. they could go a long time without food.

interesting that the previous owner had such a huge size difference between the ones he probably grow out (the 6-7 inchers) and the 11 incher. He mention how that came about?

I have tried to feed them talapia, shrimp, gold fish, steak and thats about it so far..The guy who owned them before me said he feed them chicken, steak, and whatever was for dinner and the occasional mouse.Thats why I tried steak..When I bought the tank it is a 90g it had a old 20 gallon filter and tetra x70 with a burnt out heater and a heater for a 10 gallon.I dont know how they survived in those conditions..I bought (2) penguin 350 power filters,(2) theo heaters totaling 500 watts and a whisper 220 pump for a power head..The fish love the power head and never had one before and the guy had nothing in the tank but some Wal-mart decor..I added a nice piece of driftwood from my local river(freebie!!) and some fake plants..The only test I did is a ph it is 7.5 and the temp is 80-82 zone...As for the size difference he got the big one on fathers day 09 and added the smaller ones 4-5 months ago....

At that size not eating for 4 days isn't a big deal. I am surprised they let the goldfish co exist. They die from the warm water?

No I remove whatever they dont eat while I am in there and the feeders I take out at the end of the day if not eating..There were a couple that came up missing but 3-1" gold fish isnt feeding 7 rbp...

11" RBP - cool - name him grandpa cause he's probably pretty old. They can stress pretty easy, the move alone has probably got them goin'. Try leavin' the lights off for awhile, also try feeding them shrimp or fish fillet and don't be so quick to remove it.
If your in and outta the tank several times daily it could add to the stress. Fillets and shrimp aren't gonna spunk the water in 24 hours. Terrestrial meats might tho. Also leaving food in the tank at this piont might stop them from nipping on each other. I wouldn't leave it in for days just 1 - 24 hour period then remove it and try again.
Owning numerous Characins I've noticed that every fish seems to have their own Lil' "Thing" with feeding. My P's for examples - They all eat daily - The RBP only eats when the lights are out. The Rhom picks at his food all day lights or no lights, BUT never in my presences. The Maculatus - This fish would eat the whole refigerator on stage during a Lamb of God concert then beg for more, ain't no feeding hang ups with this guy.
I guess what I'm tryin' to say is that it's gonna take sometime before your fish know and trust you and visa versa - patients and presistence.
