If you WANT them to eat the goldfish then just leave them in there. On the occasions that my RBP get feeders I NEVER see them eat them. They just sort of slowly disappear. I could be out of the room or it could be overnight. They just sort of dwindle.
When I first got mine I didn't see them eat for several months. I knew that they did eat cause the food would disappear but the shrimp or smelts would lay there until they were ready. Never had any water problems because of this.
