Your friend should pass on the BGK.
Even if the two species were compatible I don't think the BGK would get food.

I’ll echo the responses of the rest and say the knife is no more than an expensive meal for the piranhas. There may also be an issue with the 3 piranhas in a 55 - it’s likely they will fight and your friend will be left with one.
The best test is to not feed the piranha for 7-10 days and then sleep for four nights w/ your arm in the tank each evening. If they leave your arm alone the knife has a chance. If they gnaw your arm up pretty good then no, a knife might be an inappropriate tank mate.

The tail tip of BGK's is a temptation to barbs, big tetras, cichlids, etc...
