I have a pair of reds that just spawned,,,in a 55. I was just wondering what kind of food I should get to get the most fry to survive...I am gonna get a 10 or 20 gallon. I will get a sponge filter, heater and lid...any other supplies I should get?

How often should I feed them. I am gonna pick up some "baby brine shrimp" if the lady has it on hand. I leave for work at 5:40 in the morning and don't get home until around 5 usually, but can make it by 4 if I wait to go to the gym. my gf works nights sometimes, so that means she is home from 7am-7pm....how much do they usually go for to a LFS?

Well I went to the LFS and the lady hooked me up pretty good...got a 20% discount on everything and 50% off a submersible heater..she also agreed to take the fry off my hands when they get big enough...she isn't too happy with the current supplier from what I got out of it. Wish me luck :)

if its a red belly piranha,.and you got them spawned at only 55 gal? YOUR SO LUCKY man!...update pics please...:nilly:

OMFG spawning piranhas is like the holy grail of fish keeping that is somewhat obtainable :D

congrats many times over..

This is actually the 2nd pair that I have had spawn...I used to have to breeding pairs in a 125. There was a total of 3 spawns in the 125 and now this in a 55. Then I woke up to my 2 females dead in the 125,,,we think they became egg bound.

Do I start feeding them the baby brine shrimp once the sac disappears from the fry? Right now they are just small fry looking like they are attempting to swim.

Thanks, I can't wait to get these guys growin...about how many can I expect to survive? And what would be a good price to shoot for from the LFS? already had some agreements, but never said anything about prices. there are so many of them right now, only a few of the eggs didn't get fertilized/are turning white...

I would say good job but you didn't get them to breed lol Good job mother nature. J/K I would like to see som epics of the fry and keep us posted about how you care for them I hope to have mine breed one day and ill need to know how to take care of them
