Six months? I would say loss of
Color took a few months? He was still fading a lot , as in the process and then faded in terms of how red he was. Any way of getting it back?

With hormones it's quite possible that the color loss process could take a few months in total, especially if stronger doses of hormones are given. I recall back when Denis at Gold Aquariums first imported some RT's approx 6-7 years ago, color was amazing, blood red with white as snow pearls, until the juice wore off several weeks after importing them. His $300 fish went to $0 in a hurry. Ouch.

If it's not due to hormones, then I would stick to what Duane originally suggested, get him back into the same setting as he was when he was showing his best color. Black background with dark blue gravel, and cross your fingers. There's plenty of asaxanthin in his diet (which enhances the color red), so diet won't be the issue. Good luck.

How would they even get /administer hormones? That sounds pricey and difficult in itself!

If it's from thailand. The hormones are easy to get and fairly cheap and just mixed into water. Hell, you can even grab Viagra and injectable steroids over the counter at pharmacy's there if your a party party type.

That being said. I bought a batch of hormone peacocks, ob's with nice patterns. They were already colored out when small and juiced like no other. They lost all the color in a month or so, but got it all back when they grew out more. Hopefully the color on your rd will pop out again. Good luck.

Have you tried a target/dither fish with him? Maybe he needs to defend his territory once in a while to get his back up and those colours going.

Also a lower temp pulls color back.

What exactly do you mean by that, pulls color back?

Agree about black background, but no need for black gravel, not with faders, or RT.

Well with mine... I noticed with higher temps I would get a bigger hump but with some color fade. Lower temps gave me opposite results. Each fish will have it's own temperature range it prefers. The gravel is preference. Black and red are my 2 favorite colors so that is how mine were set up.
