Red Breasted Jack Dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with AngelicGreenTerror, Electric blue dempsey variation is a genetic variant which can only be obtained by breeding blues with their father blue and so on, as described before in the thread. It's everywhere on the web, you should have a look and get informed...

Is this it

The Mayan cichlid

MAYAN CICHLID
Order - Perciformes
Family - Cichlidae
Genus - Cichlasoma
Species - urophthalmus

Nope - that is a Uropthalmus or Aztec cichlid, or fake red terror. Still a nice fish in its own right (well, at least when you intended to actually pick this up instead of the real red terror).

What I am referring to is a real Jack Dempsey, but a different morph. From what I see from the posts above, they seem to be around in the hobby still, which is GREAT news. Hopefully I can see some in my area eventually.

I will try to dig up the TFH article and find a pic of one (from what I remember, it wasn't the best example of one, but at least it will be a pic). Google didn't turn up anything.

Would you like to prove me wrong? You breed two blues and see if you get all Regular ones. It's been said by countless others.

I have bred 2 blues together many times and never getting all normal....guess im just different....the blue fry are not very hardy at all and must be seperated or they die...i speak from raw encounters..not someone else's words...sorry for disagreeing with you...just facts

As gilly said, the fry are weak genetically and so the reason not to breed two blues together.
