Red Ceibal fry ?'s

Great! Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. These little ones are really starting to frustrate me.

I agree that they are frustrating. Mine spawned numerous times but would eat the fry every time. I just let them be thinking they were young as I would with any other fish. I moved the second female due to suspicion that she might be getting to the fry and lost her shortly after from aggression in the other tank. Evidently, she was a great dither for the pair because the male killed his mate a few weeks after. Now I just have the male. Beautiful fish, but the fry are very tiny; about the size of pearl gourami fry. I need to find a couple more females and try them again.

I know someone else who took out the extra and then had a hard time getting them to spawn again. I have an extra male in my 125 and I am toying with the idea of getting rid of him. They are in a large community so maybe the aggression wont be so extreme. Sorry to hear you lost your female. They are beautiful fish, but thier offspring are so frustrating :irked:

I had moved the pair to one of the 7 10 gallons I have on a rack. The plan was once the fry were free swimming to moving the parents to the next 10 gallon, rinse, repeat. I also have a 75 on that rack and was going to cull the larger fry to that as they outpaced the others in their 10 gallon. Of course, that's when he killed the female.

I'd get the smallest size and two sizes up from that of Golden pearls. Keep an airstone in the fry tank to move the golden pearls around. Lots of water changes and multiple daily feedings.

I share your frustration. I interrupted a spawn while cleaning their tank a couple months back and the parents never reclaimed it. Since then, nothing. Now, learning that the fry are hard to raise and that the parents are prone to eating them, I'm starting to think that perhaps there's something that I'm missing. They're very secretive, at least mine are.
Q: how much water movement do you use in their tank?

^^ its not like a fast flowing river or anything by any means but all of the water circulates. there are no dead spots. mine are VERY good parents (as you can see in my videos) which is a pleasant surprise. They are also outgoing. Close to being the perfect fish, if I could only raise their young.
