how would you do that? im no breeding pro. just have always let the fish do the work.

well, try. I think Matt is right - my red ceibal haven't spawned since I took all the other fish out... maybe the best way is to leave a third one in the tank, which I don't have now :(

well hopefully i am on the right track then. the males should try extra hard to attract that female since there is competition between the males. hopefully, the rots and notatus just take to one another since i only have a pair. On a different note, are there other notatus floating around from Jeff's batch that are lighter with less intense spotting? the two that I have look almost nothing alike, however i trust jeff at his word that they are both Notatus.

The technique that's worked for me is to add a divider between the spawning pair and the other fish in the tank... this allows the parents to feel the threat of the others but keeps the other fish and the fry safe.

I had this work a couple of times, most recently my oblongum chanchitos (much bigger wusses than red ceibals) actually guarded their babies for about a week... (before, of course, the divided got knocked down while I was at work and the other fish had an early dinner).

I've used this method with my old pair of Cubans before with success. The 125 that everyone is in now I dont think I will try this because its in my living room and more of a 'show tank'. Im gonna try to put the young in a breeder net if I get to them in time when the day comes. Thanks for the suggestion.
