Nice. Still waiting on mine to decide if they want to grow! Very slow growing for me at least. I'd like to get them into an outdoor pond. I've been told they can survive california winters and actually do quite well.

The air temp in Uruguay gets quite cold during the winter months and the water temp well down into the 60's. They recommend a wintering period for most gymnogeo's and australoheros I am sure benefit from this as well. Although there are many people who keep them in only tropical temps. Depending on the size tank that they are in, I would think that a warmer temp would get them growing quicker by raising thier metabolism.

i am already considering taking the fry out. Now that they are swimming all over, mom and dad have claimed about 5 feet of space and are relentless in chasing the others.... am I jumping the gun?

Go for it. Or take half out if you want to play safe, and get the other half in a few days.

I guess I was just thinking all or nothing... I suppose I could do that. As soon as I took the fry out last time, the parents chilled out and everyone utilized the whole tank again... for 2 weeks :nilly: I think Ill let it play out for another day because I am really busy tomorrow but by this weekend, I think I will move them. I am certain I will have more success this time. Thanks for all the help.
