Red Devil and Convicts in Danger?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
RDs don't play well with others, same for most flowerhorns. There will be trouble and one fish will be solo in that tank one way or another.

hey man...this is the 3rd thread youve made that had a 2nd post from you saying "NOBODY?"

chill out. you wait 32 minutes and expect an answer? sometimes the right response wont come around for days...and 32 minutes is WAY too short of time to get impatient about it.

also, sometimes basic questions dont get answered because its really annoying when people dont use the search here on MFK or use google (shows laziness, inability to learn on your own, lack of effort, lack of concern, lack of self control at your LFS etc) to help solve their own problems before asking someone else to do it for them.

on a side note, i answered one of your questions and your next question to me would have been easily solved by using google as well.

your tank is overstocked. had you researched your fish/tank size/compatibility on google or MFK, again, you wouldnt have to ask such...easily answered questions.

try it sometime...then you wont have to wait a whole 20-30 minutes for an answer.

LOL...Denied:popcorn: +1 btw

^^ Useless info... contrary to your belief, I did in fact research the blue tilapia on google to no avail..... I don't think I asked about forum etiquette, but about cichlid compatibility.... hahaha... And to address your "Issues" with my posting, I do believe that this forum is a community where people help others with problems and inexperience, are you part of that or do you enjoy putting others down over a internet connection.

I was able to find info on the blue tilapia through Google, you just have to know how to search. If you like your Convicts, you're gonna want to get rid of everything else and get some other less aggressive cichlids. They're going to eventually become that Red Devil's cuisine. It's rare that a RD tolerates other fish, especially in a tank that size. They aren't called Devils for nothing. On the other hand, if you like your Red Devil or Flowerhorn you're going to have to choose one of them and get rid of the rest. Neither are very tolerant of tankmates after a certain size. You could get yourself a slightly smaller tank and move the Convicts to if you really like them, but either way. Either the RD or the FH will destroy everything else in that tank.

^^the mans got a point plus in a little over 10 seconds after googling "the blue tilapia" i managed to find that the "blue tilapia" is in fact Oreochromis Aureus and likes to school apparently and can be a tad territorial rather than outright aggressive. its on the first page.
this shows that whatever research you did didnt involve google or MFK as the scientific name came from here. which means that you likely made an impulsive buy which will fail eventually no matter how well they are getting along while young.

the tilapia will be the 1st to fall as from what ive read its aggression is far below the game the RD and FH will bring.

with the effort you spent waiting here for someone to do simple research for you and getting "clever" with a member who is giving advice on how not to be flamed, you could have been armed with a little info and realised yourself that mixing more than 1 of these fish (excl. cons) in a tank as small as a 75 is a bad idea.

on a side note common names are next to useless. while blue tilapia threw up Oreochromis aureus it may not be what an lfs calls a blue tilapia. pics or a thorough description with colours/patterns/etc are required.

TAKE THE TILAPIA AND FLOWERHORN BACK!!!!!!!!!!

that is the short - - and best - - answer . . .

as an alternative, if you really like the FH, take the Tilapia and RD back . . .

and the man was right, don't get impatient when you don't get an answer inside of 32 minutes . . . makes you seem a bit "needy", ya know?

I just warned a buddy of mine mot go with his impulse buy. He had the chance to buy a 5" Flowerhorn but his 75gal. is already heavily stocked with a 6" GT, 6" Venustus, 3" RD, and about six or seven more african cichlids. I told him to buy it only if he planned on getting rid of everything else. He listened to me and didn't buy the Flowerhorn but he ended up buying some kind of 6.5" Dovii hybrid and another unhknown hybrid. His tank is a massacre waiting to happen. In the end people are going to buy what they want. It's just good to throw a little common sense and experience in their path of destruction.

But my tank isn't exactly like that, I have 4 fish, and I know the flowerhorn wasn't a good idea, but I have a backup tank ready for him.... soo I'm going to wait it out with him, I already took the tilapia back.

You have a mix of trouble...def did not do your research here. The FH should have his own tank, at least a 55g. Your tank might be OK now, but I guarantee not for long. Not long at all. Everything you mentioned pretty much needs to be by themselves. Thats not a fact, just a little common sense. Be careful, you may find one floatin' very soon. The tilapia is gonna hurt evrybody in there and the FH will as well. The RD will follow that....
