Red Devil experts...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's either RD or Midas-or mixed! Most RD's start off looking like that-with a barred pattern-then as they grow the bars break apart to form black blothches on the body-eventually as the mature the black will go away.

looks like a red devil than again nobody can be 100% sure. but theres a big chance its a red devil and they will change color as the get older and bigger

Thanks for the ID's everyone. Well it was listed at my LFS as Red Devil, and according to the feedback I'm getting, I guess that's what it is. Just wanted to get opinions from everyone, you know how LFSs' are...

if it was at a lfs there is a 99% chance that it is a mix of midas and red devil, and possibly other amp. species also. but those are the two most common species that are mixed and sold as pure. ive done everything i can to coin the name Midevil it sounds cool and it is a mixture of midas and devil, just like the fish is.

Here are pics of my RD fry. Can only be 99.9% sure that they are RD, even reputable sources/breeders could possibly be wrong.

Looks like either a red devil or midas or even a hybrid between the two. Since its from a pet store i would have to say its probably a hybrid.

It looks llike a juvie Amphilophus, beyond that who knows, depends on where you got it, since you are asking what it is, most likely the low grade mix sold in the trade, pure A. labiatus are rare today. Most of the pictures you see posted of any A. labiatus or A. citranellus on this site are crosses. AK-47 saying a 1" fish of unknown ancestry is a pure fish is rediculus. Ken

To me it looks like a red devil, the reason being is i had juvies around that size with patterns around the body. Could it be a cross between a rd and midas quite possibly that i do not know. As for fishfarm who i do not know personally but from what i have read you breed and sell fish so im pretty sure you are a knowledgeable person but please do not slam me when all i said was that for sure was that the color/ pattern on the fish would change.
