Hey guys,

If is see a Red devil with red eyes does that mean it's a hybrid?

Red eyes are a normal color for A. labiatus.

No. But most "Red Devils" at your local fish stores are a mix between Midas Cichlid(A. Citrinellum) and Red Devil Cichlid( A. Labiatus) which are commonly dubbed "Mid-Devils". It's not uncommon for a midevil to have red eyes, like RD mentioned, as they occur naturally in A. Labiatus.

Ya I know they are generally mixed, it's just that some of these flowerhorn faders could really pass for Midevils. Especially at smaller sizes.

There's a wide variation in eye color in both labs & cits, black, blue, yellow, orange, and red can be found in both species.

FYI - his fish is pure labiatus (F1), not a midevil.
