My red devil is showing tiny white spots all over his body...fins, tail, everywhere. I descovered today after going home from work today. Im not sure if its fluke...or something else... Anyone that could help, it would be greatly appreciated. He seems weak. I did a 30% water change yesterday. I dont know if that caused the white spots on his body.

Thanks

I agree. Ich (aka whitespot) is a parasite that can kill your fish if you don't treat it. Usually your fish get it due to stress, especially if they are chilled. Its possibly you added cold water, which caused the outbreak. Raise the temp up in the mid 80's and add salt (i'm not sure how much, sorry) also if you can, add some more aeration because high temp and salt lowers the amount of oxygen in the water.

My most important advice is to have a good read up on how this parasite functions. The biggest problem with this parasite is that people don't understand it's life cycle and think they've beaten it, stop treatment, and have it take over again, usually resulting in heavy casualties.

Cichlid-Forum Ich Bible - Read this and understand it.

i believe your right. i did a water change yesterday but i did it with warm water, after 15 mins later i tested the water it was cold. I guess that caused it..

i did everything that you guys recommended. i hope she'll get through this. She's very weak now... :(

i hope its not too late.... :( :(

Sounds like ICH. Turn up the temp to around 82 and add some aquarium salt.

Not having a shot at you directly, fish on fire. But this is a a poor excuse for a treatment, imo and seem's to be peoples answer for everything.

"Shiit, there's something wrong with my fish!"
"Quick, add some salt!" :headbang2 Rubbish.

There's a great product readily avalible called Quick cure (made by Tetra if i'm not mistaken), which contains both Formalin and Malachite green. Treat the water with Quick cure and do a water change 3 day's later, repeating for 14 day's. I wouldn't up the temp either, as any impact this may have on the parasite may indeed be contradicted by weakening your fishes imune system.

If you find it avsolutely nessercery to use salt, then i would suggest you only give him a bath. Make up a relatively mild salt water solution in a bucket and add you Rd for approximately 15 mins, or until he becomes stressed. Then, replace him and use a worth while treatment.

Good luck, Mr flame.

thats what i used Marc, Quick Cure. i followed the dosage instructions. i added very little salt though...thanks for the advice.
