Red Devil...Help!

Good man. It does sound as though the Ich is fairly advanced, but follow the directions to a strict schedual and he should be fine.

Again, best of luck.

I can also vouch for Waterlife Protozin, a Protozin based treatment that had no negative impacts on any of my juveniles. Used this with increased aeration, increased temperature, as well as salt at 1mg/L and suffered no casualties at all. It's also very concentrated, so a little goes a long way.

I used quick cure when my community tank had ich. It worked fine, although the outbreak wasn't bad at all.

Just don't get it on your hands, or you'll get cancer instantly.

She made it through the night...i was worried the whole night. I added another dosage of Quick Cure. She is still very weak though :(

Not having a shot at you directly, fish on fire. But this is a a poor excuse for a treatment, imo and seem's to be peoples answer for everything.

"Shiit, there's something wrong with my fish!"
"Quick, add some salt!" :headbang2 Rubbish.

There's a great product readily avalible called Quick cure (made by Tetra if i'm not mistaken), which contains both Formalin and Malachite green. Treat the water with Quick cure and do a water change 3 day's later, repeating for 14 day's. I wouldn't up the temp either, as any impact this may have on the parasite may indeed be contradicted by weakening your fishes imune system.

If you find it avsolutely nessercery to use salt, then i would suggest you only give him a bath. Make up a relatively mild salt water solution in a bucket and add you Rd for approximately 15 mins, or until he becomes stressed. Then, replace him and use a worth while treatment.

Good luck, Mr flame.

I disagree...it wasn't a poor excuse for a treatment...there is a large percentage of hobbyists who swear by the increased temp and salt method for ich. Now, if that was just the random treatment recommended for any fish ailment, then I might agree but from the description of the problem I think we can pretty definitively conclude that ich is the problem.

most of the time if I see a fish in one of my tanks with ich I just turn the temp up, I don't even add salt and within a day or two it goes away. I haven't used any medications in my tanks in several years. ;)

I disagree with your disagreement. Marc was 100% correct. If the OP only received Fish on fire's response and followed the advice, all his fish would die of ick. The correct temperature to raise your tank to is 87F or higher, 82F wouldn't do anything. Adding salt isn't necessary IME but increasing aeriation is good advice. I never use chemicals or medications for ick. GL

I would recommend using a product specifically designed to cure ich (I think I have used Rid ich or something like that). In the old days mercurechrome used to treat this but I don't think you can get it anymore.

Besides they have commercial products for this.
