i have a 75 gal growout tank that has a green severum pair male and female. a single oscar. and a pair of red devils. i think they are male and female but not sure yet. anyways my question is how big of a tank do i need to house a red devil pair or even a single devil? also if my severum pair decides to mate will my oscar be ok in the 75gal as well if i put a divider in untill i take the fry out? i have a 55 gal open if i can keep one of my devils in there i may get rid of the other devil unless they decide they are a mating pair.

any help anybody?

For a pair of RD's i personally don't think anything smaller than 125 gallons will suffice. If they do chose to pair up in that tank nothing will survive. In fact, even if they don't pair up I doubt the severums could live with just one RD, and I'm fairly certain the oscar won't unless it turns out your DEVILS (they're called that for a reason ;)) are unnaturally docile.

thanks.. but my question is actually if i could house the single RD in my 55 by himself and leave the oscar in with the Severum pair in my 75 and throw in a divider when i breed the sevs. that way my 75 would have the severum pair, an oscar, and my sydontis as fully stocked tank. and i would have the 55 for the single RD by himself. if not i think i might go catch me some baby myans for the 55 and get rid of the RD

Well IMO the 55 isn't big enough for even a single RD... and I don't think the 75 is big enough for the oscar and severums. IMO the 75 is only big enough for the oscar by itself, or the severums.

how big to RD get when fully grown? i cant seem to find any viable consistent info on them. in my research I have found they cant get 12" max or up to 15" max depending on the website and I have found that searching here on MFK I get the same info so do true RD get 15" or is that the Midas?

so i cant house any of the fish i have in my current tanks? the RD's can be disposed of (traded in at LFS) but the sevs and the oscar are being kept. as of now all these fish are in my 75 gallon and getting along just fine at a size range from 3.5"-5" the only aggression i am seeing is one RD is chasing the other one but no damage being done so far. what about getting rid of the RD's and keep the oscar in the 75 and the sev pair in the 55? like i said the oscar and the Sevs are definately staying.

Do you have a pure Amphilophus Labiatus?

as far as i can tell yes. and the lfs asked her supplier and he said they are. either way it sounds like i need to redo my thinking here as apparently a 75 gal has very little stocking availability unless i want to keep 1 or 2 fish in there..
