kdrun76, don't be a jerk.
Nobody wants to hear someone be arrogant about their views on something like the "one inch per gallon rule"; It should be obvious to everyone here that reality is much more subjective.
eatingleg4peanut, way to go man! Sorry about your fish, but if your cichlids make babies the more the merrier, an RD/JD hybrid sounds pretty. As for the plausability, Most south american cichlids can hybridize (with certain exceptions), as things like heros, amphilophus, parachromis, vieja, cryptoheros etc, are very closeley related - most of them were formally part of the cichlasoma complex before the recent reclassification, and evidence of even fertile hybrids from different genera is the vieja and trimac obvious in some flowerhorns. I have a fish even now that is an (accidental) hybrid of a severum (heros) and a convict (now Amatitlania). I believe that it is very possible for a JD and RD to cross, as they were both formally part of cichlasoma before they moved it around, and thus are more closeley related. The offspring may even be fertile.
Good luck man, and send me a message if you need to get rid of some of the fry,
Seeing those grow into their colours would be fascinating.
As for the guy that says you're playing god letting these fish cross, everybody deserves to be loved. Hope they get along man
