Hi everyone I´m not sure if this is a dumb question or not but I know how they change colours a lot from when they are young.
here is my devil
PC272594.jpg

Since I took that picture a few days ago hes got a black streak in his anal fin, hes an overall yellowy cream colour but along the top of his body he has like, see through scales and you can see an underneath layer of dark pigment.

I guess my question is, Do all Devil/Midas change colour from their juvenile colours? should I expect mine to change rapidly? and also wanted to know if that under layer pigment thing is a trait of young fish, or is that just a trait of my fish in particular.

You see I chose him because he was the only yellow coloured one, although he has orange in his fin and tail, I suppose he probably wont be yellow at the end.

Finally, could any Midas or Devil owners post pics of theirs before the fade, and after so I can see how drastic a change it can be, thanks a lot!

thanks RD very good read and if I read correctly then All devils and midas should fade and peel ? judging that I got mine at about 1" long I´m assuming he still is going to ?
any idea of what I should expect ?

That's the interesting part about citrinellus & labiatus (as well as crosses between the two) you just never know exactly how your fish may morph in color as they mature. Not all will fade/peel, some will, some won't, some will end up as piebalds (hypomelanism), it all depends on their genes.

The following links should give you a pretty good idea of all of the variable coloration & patterns that can be seen in wild labiatus & citrinellus.
