I am fairly new to mfk.com, and this will be my first forum post (other than for marketplace and introduction).
I am not sure if I am posting this in the right category but here i go.
And if i am not doing it at right area, please direct me to the correct forum. While your at it, i am seeking advicw for a stock idea for my 125 tank, where would i go for that?

Also please excuse my grammer, as i am writing through my phone with no auto correct. Thanks

So recently i paired up my 2 year old female red devil with a 2-3 year old midas. I introduced them in my 125 tank. It wasnt a good idea but at the time i just threw in the midas, not seperating them and slowly introducing them first.
Now my female RD is a super calm fish for its kind, it previously lived with about 5-10 other medium to very small (from frys to juvie) fishes in a 100 gallon hexagon tank and did not attack any of them.
When i put the midas and red devil together they were alone in the 125. After few hours of settling in, the RD and midas starting attacking each other vigorously, I did a lot of research beforehand and found this normal, so it wasn't a concern for me. The female held its ground and sometimes the male would back off or sometimes the female would back off. But after about 2 and a half days, they stoped fighting and started living with each other peacefully.
They both started moving all the pebbles to one side and created a big empty space. The male would follow the female around expecting and waiting to fertalize her eggs, but she never laid any. This went on for about 2 weeks.
I decided to seperate them with a divider in the 125 since i knew the males become aggressive if females dont lay their eggs.
I only seperated them for about 2 days because they did not want to be seperated at all.... Both, especially the male was always by the divider trying to go through it (it was quite sad actually :P)
So i removed the divider.......
@@ohh i just remembered, when i introduced the two and they fought for 2 days, none had serious injuries like many that i've seen before. Other than a little damage on lips, there were no riped fins or scales.both were pretty even but yea the male was still a decent size bigger than the female@@@
.
.
So i removed the divide and let them be at it again. About 3 weeks passed but still no eggs... And the whole process, i did raise the water temperature to 80-84

I moved them to a 55 gallon with no pebbles or decorations, only te essentials and a flat plate.

They have been in there for about 2 weeks now and still no eggs....

Male is more aggressive now while female does nothing at all except eat.
Still no major damge though

So what am i doing wrong?

Will Appreciate the responses and ideas. Thanks

Btw, when i got the midas, it was pretty white with a little pink.
When i introduced it to my RD, it changed colors to a bright red, my red devil's color brightened up too.

But throughout this whole process, their colors have started to fade again, especially the male's.

The first 3 pix are of them first few days/weeks of introdution.. After the violent process

I would say get them out of that 55, get them back in the big tank and leave them alone,

its not all instant but i would #1 double check that you have a male and a female , the hump means nothing
#2 people on here are gonna rip your head off for calling them either red devils or midas, because you really have no idea what you have due to cross breeding , hybridization, weather there f1 or f100 so the only safe thing to call them is MIDEVILS people on here go hard about this lol
#3 get a big ole piece of slate and put it in the big tank, temp up about 84, feed lots, massive water changes, if you have fry or juvies your culling feed them to the midevils,

if i were you i would look at how to vent these fish
and i would also stop moving them around if you want them to breed, keep a close watch on your female . y midevils spawned 2 times and yielded about 3000 babies it was nuts my video links are on here somewhere, but out of the blue after putting them together for a third go my male killed my female so it can be okay and .... blamo homicide

also vary your food if you dont already... and i hope your not planning on trying to make some cash off the fish because what i have found is i couldnt give any of my guys away no one wants a homicidal midevil maybe you will have better luck but i ended up using 99% of my fry and juvies for feed to get my other fish in the mood....
I would recomend leaving it alone , and besides what are you goona do with them if they dont sell.... either that or buy something that likes midevil meat, jags are very fond of them lol

Thanks, really appreciate the feedback.
Lol midevils mybad

yea i am sure one is male and one is female...

My 125 is occupied with a bunch of other fish right now so i cant put them back. They have settled in the 55 so i think it should be ok. I know it is recommended a 6ft tank for breeding pair, but i have too many other fish to put in a 125.

And red devils/midas are my favorite kind of fish, i will take good care of them.
I do not plan on profitting on these guys, maybe sell a few for maintenance cost and such, but most will be for free. I believe some lfs here will buy frys too, if not i can just donate it.
These will be my first big fish breed, i have only breed the easiest of the easy such as guppies and kribensis.

There cool fish no doubt so good for you for keeping them , i have a few myself, but there sooo mixed up unless your pulling them from the water yourself you dont know what you have was my point.

and if you can profit off them giver liver, I was sharing my exp with the whole midevil fry game... but you never know i live in the boonies so may be a totally different exp than mine..

and my lfs here suck so again you may have no issues

i bred mine in a tank not to much bigger than a 55 and i also had them spawn in my 180 so i dont think it matter im surprised that they havent yet,

Yea my lfs is pretty cool; i've sold quite a few to them before. Never tried fish frys before but i guess i will eventually. I am pretty sure they will except donations though.

And yea i am suprised myself too thats why i am posting this to seek for help. Like i said i have done some research about breeding midevils and theycsay ots oretty easy as long as condition is right... I think i've set my condition right. Could it be my female cannot lay eggs? If so if i get a new female will the male not mate with it since midevils pair for life?

my male would breed with anything except with one female i tried and it looked alot like the one you have, see if you can find another female, shouldnt be hard throw them all in together and see if he/she chooses one and remove the third wheel

cant be that hard you live in cali,

post a new thread asking what lfs's are good in your area and people will let you know im sure there is some killer importer near you

Im not a big spender even though this is something i really want, i just cant afford the luxery of buying more than averaged priced fishes... Even if its cheap already :/

I tried searching for female one on craigslist for about a week or two now. No results. And lfs has only male midevils
