I have what I believe (and was sold to me as) a Midas. The fish is only about 3 inches now. I have seen fish that look similar being called Red Devil and Midas.

Is there a way to be sure which is which?

no freking diffrence between they both are types of rd.

No.
Red Devil is the common name for Amphilophus labiatus.
Midas is the common name for Amphilophus citrinellus.
Two different common names for two different fish.
Most of todays store-bought fish are mixes between the two species, which is why you will often see them referred to as rd/midas on the boards.

i thought red midas's and red devil's were pretty much the same thing?
red devils usually have smaller bodies i think though?
