Red devil or Midas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nuchal Humps are not sure ways of indicating sex of RD/Midas. Females can also have them. No way of telling if your fish is Midas or Red Devil or what sex it is by a pic (unless it is a clear vent pic). Venting will tell you the sex though. If you purchase from a reliable source like a reputable hobbyist or vendor, you will have a more concrete background of your fish. The fish in question does look nice. Give it plenty of room, quality food, and regular water changes and it will continue to improve.

yeah there is no such thing as a midas or a red devil on here unless you have verification of where i came from , this group accept midevils> unless this came from the wild or rapps it seems to be the only 2 acceptable times to call them red devils or midas

It is what it is. If you are happy with the fish just enjoy keeping it. It's still a nice looking fish. There's no shame in having a Midevil. Many grow to be excellent fish. The problems boil down to breeding, selling fry and adult fish in the hobby responsibly. Not everyone is willing to chance crossing similar species. Some are very specific in what they choose to keep and breed, sometimes down to exact locations. People can take this as a negative stance against their fish of unknown origin but it isn't. This has been debated and beat to death on this forum for quite a while and I doubt that it will go away anytime soon. There are other species that are questioned when their source is unverified (Trimacs are a fine example of this). For most of us, when we pay for a fish we want exactly what we paid for. That's why reputable vendors and hobbyist are so important. But even then things may not be correct. You just limit your chances of getting the wrong fish when you purchase from reputable sources. So if you are looking for a specific species buy from a knowledgeable and trusted source. Everyone in this hobby has their preferences and they should be respected. But that doesn't mean that we will always agree. Again, enjoy your fish!
