Red devil pair question.

Hey guys, long time lurker here, i recently got back into the hobby buy buying a 7 foot tank with the fish included, at a bargain price

My question today is, the tank has 3 oscar's a pair of red devils, and a 2 pleco's, i like the tank as is, but I have a problem, the pair have claimed one of the terracotta pots, and it seems they want to nest, now I know a lot about fish ect, but nothing about breeding, anyway I don't want to breed these 2 because they both have turned slightly aggressive towards my oscar's and I can't afford to run another tank, no serious damage on the oscar's at all, hasn't even damaged them the slightest, just a quick chase, but it's keeping them all to one side of the tank, which really isn't appealing you know what I mean? So I just want to know what is the best way to stop the process? Is it as simple as leaving them no place to lay? E.g taking out the pot, I'd really love to keep them both, as they are beautiful fish, and I'm scared if I had to get rid of the female the male may go mad.

Also it's been about a week since they have took over this pot, thought I'd add that, and still no eggs, but her stomach is pretty big.

I would just keep a divider ready, they may be ok, I have bred my midevils/midas in my 7x2x3 commnity without major issues or aggression... that being said I cant keep oscars in my tank as they get battered.... im sure removng a pot wont stop them tbh, they will lay anywhere... nothing you can do to stop them. Can remove the eggs when they appear but you will prob bleed a little haha.. good luck.

Yes i can defiantly see there little teeth haha, as i said no harms been done, or even looks like it will come to that, i'll continue to keep a close eye on it, any idea on how long it usually takes? all they do is keep going back and forth taking in turns going in, they have dug it out completely, Thanks for the answer.

You won't stop them from breeding and removing the eggs may make them murder each other. The only w to stop a pair from breeding is to remove one of them

Removing the eggs will shorten the whole affair imo, they will be agitated at thr time but soon settle down in a 7 ft tank. If they hatch it will be even worse as the fry start to move around the aggresion will be moving up and down the tank with them... that will go on until you remove the fry anyways, dont let them hatch in my opinion, others are free to have their own opinion of course. My tank has other midas and aggressive fish, I have grown and lost batches with no major aggression... lots of people talk from experience with rd in 75g tanks, a 7ft 300 like mine and ops 7ft is a different ball game. .

Both valid opinions, i have such a placid pair before this, if i took out the female, the male could possibly get a lot more aggressive right? Thanks

its the oscars that are the problem they get bullied soo easily, good luck dude, keep us updated. they may not even lay yet, my prep stuff and look ready all the time then just stop 90% of the time.
