My girlfriends 5 year old daughter wants a red devil. I know that with my 75 gallon tank I have right now is stocked rather full right now so I know I can't add another fish like this to that tank. In the near future here we are moving and then I'll be setting up a 150 gallon tank. So what I'm thinking about doing is getting a 55 gallon cheap off craigslist to put a red devil that I can get from a guy I work with. what I'm wondering is would a 55 be large enough for a medium sized Red Devil. I'm guessing the one he has is maybe 6-7" in size. Later when I get the 150 set up I'd move him to the 75.

How soon are you moving? There was a thread today about a guy leaving for the weekend and coming back and noticing substantial difference in growth in his rd.

hey mate ive got my red devil he is full grown and lives in a 90 gallon but he is extremly spoiled lol but a 75 gallon would be big enough but till then he would be able to live in da 55 for maybe 2 months

I'm sure you know this but don't get him unless YOU want him. The little girl (darling as they are) isn't even going to remember about one by the time you move if it's not mentioned again. Nice guy you are for thinking about her though :-)

Ya don't understand her lol I had a red devil when she was 3 years old and got rid of him because I didn't have space for him. She's been asking at least once a week for the past 2+ years for me to get another one for her to have one. As my girlfriend puts it our entire place would be fish tanks if I had my way. She gave me a two tank limit when we moved into this place a year ago. I have a 75, 29 and a 10 gallon setup here I bought a 150 a few months back since I knew when our lease was up we were moving into a bigger place. and I couldn't pass up getting a 6' 150 gallon that was almot new for $150 for the tank, stand and a couple of filter. The kids room has a 10 gallon and the 29 gallon setup sitting next to each other so if I remove those we could fit a 55 gallon tank there. So I'm trying to compromise with my girlfriend get rid of 2 small tanks to get one tank that would only be a little bigger than the two we are getting rid of.

It's rather cute seeing her come into the bedroom while I'm on this site or other fish sites because even though she can't read yet she knows if I'm on a fish forum and asks to see pictures of different fish, often it's to see red devils, or other fish that I currently have.

For the few months he should be fine. He'll probably grow a few inches in the time being and you'll already have a 75g for him. Also, grats to your daughter already being in the fish keeping hobby.

Her brother which is 8 is also ready too. I had to make it crystal clear to him that he's not to be "taking care of the fish" with out me or mom there watching him. He seems to think it's ok for him to feed the fish in the 75 gallon tank without us watching him. I found a few good pics on google image search that make the point that fish can bite.
