I have a red devil and i was wondering if i could put it in a bare bottom tank i was wanting to put tile down is this possible?

If you want a sulky bored depressed red devil Go for it. But if you want a happy active fish don't do it. Only time I go bare bottom is for my Discuss or some different cases. ( Like my Girlfriend ) anyways back on topic.

Temporarily i'd go for it. I've kept them in barebottom tanks for weeks at a time while I rearranged stuff. But not perminantly. :D Not like there going to live there for ever :D

:D

Ping Pong balls. My loves to to hide it and bury it. It's quiet amusing. Galls balls work to. I something that won't hurt the fish but will stay at the bottom of the tank :D

bro LARGE CICHLIDS LOVE DIGGING
i mean when my jag digs no one is allowed to dig with him!
if the green terror even tries, he gets a bite
it keeps them amused and happy IMO
quick tip, put only a little gravel so they can dig but not make a huge pile

ping pong balls?? never heard of that lol um i think im going to put a lil bit of gravel in there its funny my teachers red devils tank has a pirate in it and the red devil loves to bury it with the gravel lol ill try to get picks of it its so funny im gonna put that gravel in there tonight tho

Cichlids! Underwater excavators! My jag piles the gravel in a different corner every other day. He gets mad at the big rocks he can't move, and other stationary objects in the tank.

All my fish including my cichlids are barebottom. I don't think they're any less active then any other cichlid. They still tear up my plastic plants and my old midas successfully crushed a ping pong ball. I have no clue how. :D

wow lol mines not that big to crush a ping pong ball hes about five inches his kok is starting to form but i think im going to put the ping pong ball in there anyways mine is very play ful he watches me all day hes watching me now lol im starting to like him more and more his personality is so funny ♣♣♥☺♣◘○♦☺

I think my red devil is much happier when she can dig. I had to move her out of her original tank when I aquired a chocolate cichlid. She is not liking her 35 gallon octagon tank that I have to keep her in now. She already dug to the bottom of the 35 gallon and laid eggs on her own. I am about to trade her to the LFS for some jewels and some tetras.
