Red Devil Question

Here you go. She looks much better in person, and really gets a red underside when in the mood.

Here she is with my male Hoga. He has wanted to spawn with every female Amph I have. What a horn dog.


She is flaring at my barred blue devil, which is on the other side of the divider.

Nice. Shes a beauty with some definite pretty red.

I was thinking, the way I read "barred red female", that she was like a candy cane. Red & white bars .

Ok so i think I am leaning towards citrinellus, sagittae – colored, xiloaensis, red Isletas primarily because TUIC has large ones in stock. I have a good idea of what to expect with Citrinellus, but what are the differenes with Sagittae, Xilo's and Istletas compared to Red Devil's/midas when it comes to size and attitude?

labiatus longer, sagittae in between, red islestes smaller but chunky, citrenellus big, chunky.

here are some examples of mine which are sub adults 6-9"
xilo on top, chancho on bottom

This is the one of the "reddest" RD's Ive ever seen and, contrary to what its name would lead you to believe, its not even Red. The dark prominent color is primarily due to it having been kept outside in natural sunlight.


All the ones in the Rapps photos, if I remember correctly from the posters on here that bought them, while red in the photos, all faded and lost their lip size as well.

I dont think, if youre truly asking for RED, that there are such a thing that holds red as its permanent color.



Madness, do you have pics of your Barred "RED" RD? In all my years of being around fish, Ive never heard of or seen that before. If its not an anomaly, Id pay high dollar for something of the sort if it has fry.

This is interesting about how they had such a vibrant color due to natural light. I'm wondering now if you can help a cichlid retain it's vibrant color, whether Red Devil or some other American Cichlid, if you were give it a good amount of artificial light on a daily basis?

Very nice looking fish! Almost looks like a Mayan Cichlid.

WOW You are no joke! You have them all!! Kind of off topic, do your cichlids pair off in the 600 gallon and cause problems?
