So in these pics you will see one RD I bought from my lfs. She is mostly white. Now I recently bought 5 2-2.5 inch Red Devils online from a breeder. I’m fairly new with this breed. Only had the female for about 2 months. Now I’ve read they can change color over time. My female is a prime example of that. She was when I got her predominantly orange. So my question is this. Anytime I see Red Devils this size they are already orange. Is this normal for them to be this size and still not orange?

It's very possible that your fish from the lfs may not be a Red Devil but a Mid Devil. The color may stay that way. There are a few members with what the call Creamsicle colored. If you planned on breeding I would not pair that fish up with the Red Devil juveniles you got from the breeder.

with the one I got from my lfs it was labeled as a Midas. Imo she does not look like a Midas but more closer to a RD, might even be possible she is a hybrid. I talked to the breeder where I got the juveniles. He said she looks closer to a RD as well but he only had a couple pics I sent him. My intentions are to breed them. I was either looking for a Midas or RD pair that were mostly white. I don’t know, I just feel in love with those fish and that color pattern. Seeing as I had one that I believe to be a RD I bought 5RD juveniles. Let me know what you think she may be.

Creamsicle is a very desirable color. She has a more elongated shape, consistent with a RD. Midas tend to have a more boxy shape.

There are about a dozen species of Amphilophus originating from the great lakes of Nicaragua.
All are often called by the made up trade name red devil, mideivil, and other common names.
Some are yellow, some white, some creamsicle, some are barred.
All look similar as juvies, but as they age change adapt different color versions.

All start out like the one above, but depending on species (or not), and or which lake they come from can be quite a variety of different colors, that may or may not have anything to do with species, all species have many different color morphs.

above Amphilophus amarillo (a barred Amphilophus), below Amphilophus flaveolus
not that far in the past, called a barred midas.

Unless the original catch location is known, it is almost impossible to know what species is what without a DNA test..
Most LFSs don't know, so often use the catch-all trade names, like red devil etc etc.
So any variety found in a LFS should be considered basically, "aquarium strain" Amphilophus.

I got them from a breeder. I got the 2-2.5” ones for $15/each. I was just more surprised to see them this color. It’s the first time I’ve seen them like this. So was more or less seeing if this is normal and if they do look like RD’s.

So did you buy the Amphilophus labiatus F3 Big Lip Devils Lago Nicaragua?
If so, it is very normal to be grey, or barred, it may then morph (or not) into different colors) later.
The photo below is taken from the Cichlid Room Companion showing a normal adult Amphilophus labiatus lake Nicaragua

Well I did not know that. Like you said they can change into different colors. If they stay this color I guess I will have to continue looking 😔
Probably just better off waiting to find one at my lfs. Just got tired of waiting and figured I could find one online.

I recognize that list, lol. Could've just said Ken Davis. His labiatus line is good.
