I'm not trying to discount the pleco, but unless you've witnessed the pleco doing the damage I think that it's safe to assume it was the slate.

I do have lots of slate either way how much salt should I use for a 75? and does it have to be non-iodized?

yes it does, but personally i would just boost up the temp i rarly add salt in my tanks especially for just a couple of missing scales,thell grow back,and if u do use salt about 1 tsp per 10 gallon should do the trick,but dont worry, is your fish acting difrent?

or will salt from my water softener work too?

they sselll his salt at your lfs just ask for aquarium salt

No she's acting fine. I'm prob just bein over cautious. I assume Mela fix can't hurt either.
