would red devil / midas hybrids be sexually mature at 5"? i have a community with 6 ranging from 2.5 - 5" and i saw 2 of the larger ones mouth locked yesterday. mating or fighting? opinions?

Keep an eye on them either way cause if they are fighting someone will lose. If they are breeding??? Everything else in the tank will lose..
Size really does not dictate sexuall maturity, but age. A dominant red devil fish can reach sexual at about 5" more or less, just depends. It should take a fish from time of hatching to reach about 5-6" in about 8 monthes to a year. Longer for other fish like grammodes. But nothing is set in stone, but for most part, most large cichlids are sexually mature by 5-6".
i had my 5 inch male breed with my 8-9 inch female, so yes he is probably big enough. and when the males bump gets bigger hes tryin to breed. when u see a pair form separate them from everyone else and u should have luck
Depends on what you call luck. I just want to pull the females and be left with 3-4 male devils. Theyre in my 1200 gallon community.
