I've seen a lot of posts on here questioning if "it's really a red devil".

So I figured I'd ask the same question. I got this guy about 3 weeks ago or so, and was wondering what you all think of this one. Red devil? Good one? Bad one? Just kind of curious, never had one of these before. :D

Most likely a Midas Red devil mix of some sort. I'm not the best at IDing these guys but the head doesn't look long enough and the lips don't look big enough for me to think it's a pure red devil.

I personally find it hard to distinguish the RD from the Midas even after owning both.
All I can say is that the Red devil was a male, had a big ol' hump on the head (we called'm Frankenfish) his color was bright orange to yellowish pink on the flanks and had like a blueish hue along the finniage.

My Midas was a female looked identical in body structure minus the humphead but the colors were lighter more of a pinkish white w/ and blueish hue along the finniage.

Yours looks like both of mine but i'd be leaning towards red devil cause of the orangish yellow coloring. And yes it's a good lookin' fish.

from what ive read its a matter of where you got it from that usually plays a part in whether you have a pure blood or cross.

Thank you Liz. I'm really hoping he is true red devil, got a lot to look forward to after seeing ur pics :D.

It looks like he's getting the beginning of the "hump", kind of like his forehead is starting to stretch. :naughty:

this was mine when he was a baby...alot like yours...

You cannot visually tell the genetic makeup of a fish. Anyone who says otherwise is simply guessing. Odds are it's a mix of both, unless it came from a reputable source.
