just got myself a 10inch male red devil and just wondering what would be a suitable tank mate(s)

Depends on tank size and general aggression level of your RD. I have my midas in with a couple of convicts, a rhino pleco, and a striped raphael. There is lots of rock work and the convicts understand who is boss, so it seems to work out. Tank size is a 90gal, I'm looking to upgrade though.no____regrets said:

Actually I've seen 1 big midas kept in a 90 and a 125 gallon with 1 HUGE Oscar but those Oscars were REALLY badass...bad tempered murderous oscars that are rarely seen in the hobby....
If you want a bigger tankmate with the devil, attempt it in at least 125 gallon or more.
I also just bought a 10" Midas....living with just 1 rowdy little convict. The convict lives in a cave now, hidden by plants.

its like this anything can be done . It all depends on the size of said fish . Temperment of said fish. and suroundings of said fish. now saying this . I recomend trying to find a big female something or other . Weather it be a female midas. or some other type of cichlid thats a female. Females are alittle less likely to get bashed by a male. Right now i have 2 jags a midas and a polleni sp liveing together all between 5 and 7 inchs long.
In the past i had 2 midas , 2 jags, 1 tsn, 1 tsn red tail yhybrid, 1 polleni, 1 bullhead, a bluegill, and a texas liveing peacefully in a 6 foot tank 150 gal.

the problem is going to be that the red devil you purchased is a mature adult. if this fish is not used to having tankmates then chances are it won't accept any now. if it was grown up with other fish then it might be a little more accepting. the best thing you can do is provide a very large tank and introduce whatever tankmate(s) first and then the red devil a few hours or even days later.

i was told by the at the lfs that is was in a tank with other cichlids but he is unsure of what thewy were, that is depending he is telling the truth. To me it seems aggressive by its antics. its home is a 6ft tank. after asking this question i got my hands on a 5inch female RD. i was worried about putting her in so i put a divider in the tank. Every time he sees her he rushes over and runs into the divider. so would i be best to keep the divider in and hope they breed that way or take it out and keep close watch for a while?

Put the divider with a hole big enough for the female to pass through but not the male. If they're compatible then they might breed. It may take some time but it'll work. I had my white m midas in with my f barred midas together in a divided tank for about 3 months and still no eggs. When I went to my lfs the guy told me it might take a long time for them to pair up but it will eventually happen.
