I agree with Saku that your fish looks a bit more midas than devil but is most likely a mix of both. one thing I will say is :WHOA: he's a fantastic looking fish.    very nice find.

JeffLeMay, the red devil is Amphilophus labiatus. Amphilophus citrinellus is the midas cichlid. most, if not all, "red devils" you find in a pet store are a hybrid of the 2 species because both hobbyists and fish farms have been crossing them for years. to get a pure red devil or midas you have to find a reputable breeder or importer. they are both great fish.

You are 100% correct. But don't let an "impure" Red Devil fool you; they are AWESOME fish. Here's a pic of my guy.......

He's a spunky, attitude filled monster in the making.

0h for sure, the pet store red devil hybrids are great fish. I have 3 and I love each one of them.

btw, great looking devil, I've always liked the more white than orange ones the best. :D

Thanks. Funny thing is he was entirely orange when I bought him a month ago! I was beyond happy when the white started showing up.

that's awesome. all the ones I've had have never changed much (if at all) in color. :( Luckily I've found some small ones with really cool colors that didn't change. I do think my 5" orange male may wind up showing a bit of white here pretty soon though (but probably not). :D

yeah i was lucky to find him, i live in western australia so it was a great find when i happened to pop into a lfs on the way home from work. i have what i think a female around 6 to 6inch who is even a brighter white than the male. ill get some pics of her shortly. once i work out how to put videos on here i will post some too. the male wasnt eating for days and would swim past the gold fish i had in there for him (im thinking he was bought up on pellets) but to my suprise he ate half of a goldfish yesterday so hopefully now he has had a taste he wont look back! :headbang2

i have put the female in with the male now and she wont leave him alone she keeps swimming up fast next to him and rubbing along side him. can anyone tell me what this behaviour is? he dont seem to interested. she also swims above him and lays on her side and he gently pushs her to the top on the water??
