How much is too much aggression? I have a pair of red devils that have spawned twice. The last time was two weeks ago. I removed the female because the male seemed to be relentless in his pursuit of her (She was pretty worn out after the fry hatched).

They have been in separate tanks for two weeks. I put them together this evening, since she has healed all previous wounds. The male has been chasing her around the tank nipping, ramming, biting, etc. Do you think there is a chance things will settle down before she is beaten up beyond help? They seemed to get along much better prior to the separation.

By the way, I place a red shouldered peacock in the tank, in an attempt to distract the male (It worked in the past). Unfortunately, there is enough aggression for everyone.

Is it time for the screening?

would recommend the use of a divider, be the best way to save your female

nice devils.id put a divider,so they wont look tore up with ripped fins. They look like show quiality.

My red devil is werid, pretty sure he is a male, but anyways he hates light i turn that on he wont touch even a tetra its strange

um i heard in one thread i think breeding forum that you can try a divider with a hole cut in it just bug enough for the female to fit through and not the male so then the female can get close to and away from the male! you can also try more dithers more than just that peacock! a couple of mnuba could do pretty good! or a lot of 2" cons!

i agree with you there....cichlids breeding can be brutal...

ur talking about an incomplete divider which probably wouldn't work in his situation as his 2 fish look to be almost the same exact size my methods wouldn't work either provide caves ONLY SHE can fit into but they look to be pretty much the same size so just a complete divider and keep trying the 2 together periodically and see how it goes

THATS Y IN THE WORLD OF CICHLID BREEDING IT REALLY HIS BEST (MOST OF THE TIME) TO GET A MALE THATS AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT BIGGER/BULKIER THAN YOUR FEMALE

if you look at the pic the female is actually quit a bit smaller! the cave things is almost the same thing as a divider!
